Submission of contributions

Contributions should be written in clear, correct English and accompanied by an abstract in Spanish. Concise presentation is essential. Authors should submit three printed copies of their manuscript (including figures, tables, supplementary material and graphical abstract) and one copy on disquette to:

Manuscript and diskette preparation

All parts (texts, footnotes, references, tables, captations, etc.) of the manuscript should be typed on one side A4 paper in large script (at least 2.5 mm high), and should be double spaced (at least 5 mm between lines).
All typed pages should be numbered consecutively. Please indicate in angle brackets where tables, figures, etc. should be placed (e.g. <Fig. 1>). A diskette containing the text, footnotes, references, figure captions and tables must be sent to the editorial office in Madrid.

Elements of the manuscript

Manuscripts should be divided and assembled as follows:
First page Title (as short as possible); the forenames, other initials, surnames and addresses of all authors (full postal address, including fax and E-Mail, if available, of the correspondence author is required). Then an Abstract (up to 100 words) should be included in the first page of the manuscript. The correspondence author should be designated with an asterisk. Spanish authors could use the last two names hyphenated (e.g. Jaume Casabó-Gispert).
Second page One abstract written in clear and correct Spanish language must be included; for non Spanish-speaking authors, the publishers will provide a suitable translation of the English abstract included in the first page. Up to five key words in alphabetical order should also be included.
Third and successive pages Main text should be divided as follows: Introduction, Experimental (or Methodology for theoretical papers), Results and Discussion, Acknowledgements and References.
Last page Graphical Abstract: a short text for the table of contents should be included, written in order to encourage readers to read the article. Avoid repetition or paraphrase any part of the title or abstract. One graphic (formulas, figure, etc.), but not too large, should also be included.

Experimental
All new compounds should be fully characterized with relevant spectroscopic data. Microanalysis should be included whenever possible. Under appropriate circumstances, high resolution mass spectra may serve in lieu of microanalysis, if accompanied by suitable NMR criteria for sample homogeneity. Authors are encouraged to draw attention to hazards by adding the word CAUTION followed by a brief description and literature reference, if appropriate.

Nomenclature, symbols and units
The rules and recommendations of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) should be adhered to.

Tables
Tables should be provided with a brief title, and should only be divided by three horizontal lines (head rule, neck rule and foot rule). All tables are to be numbered using Arabic numbers. If possible, they should be camera-ready (see Illustrations).

Instructions for Authors

Illustrations
Structural formulas, figures and schemes must be submitted camera-ready on separate sheets and, if possible, they should be designed for the width of one column (8.5 cm). The maximum width is two columns (17.5 cm). For best results, illustrations should be larger than the desired final size. Numbers, letters and symbols used must be large enough to be still 1.5-2 mm high after the figure has been reduced to its final printing format. Black and white photographs must be defined, high contrast and without masking screen. The illustrations should be marked individually with author's name and figure number. Each illustration should have a legend; the legends should be listed on a separate sheet on the manuscript, rather than being included with the drawings. Colour figures are welcome, but authors are expected to make a contribution towards the extra costs (costs are communicated on acceptance of the manuscript).

Crystallographic data
The following data should be given in the manuscript: crystal dimensions, crystal system, space group, unit cell dimensions and volume, þcalcd, 20max, radiation, wavelength, scan mode, temperature of measurement, number of measured and independent reflections, number of reflections included in refinement, sigma limits, whether and how Lorentzian polarization and absorption corrections were performed (µ min-max transmission), method of structure solution and program, method of refinement and program, number of parameters, treatment of H-atoms, R. and Rw whether refined against |F| or |F2|, residual electron density, atomic coordinates; relevant bond lengths and angles may be given in a table or in the legend of a plot of the molecule (preferably ORTEP-type). After acceptance of the paper, the data will be deposited at the appropriate data bank referred in the manuscript. Authors who personally wish to deposit their crystallographic data should inform the editor of their intention as soon as they submit their manuscript.

References
References should be entered in the text in square brackets only [1-4] and numbered in the order of appearance. At the end of the manuscript, references should be styled as follows:

Types of contribution

Original papers of high scientific level are published in the form of:
Short Communications (important preliminary results requiring rapid publication), should be limited to two printed pages and an appropriate number of display items. There should be no section headings except for an Experimental section (where appropriate).
Articles (full research reports) Authors are requestered to be concise and to omit routine data, which must be included in Supplementary Material.
Short Review Articles They are generally published by invitation, but unrequested manuscripts are also welcome. The manuscript can be subdivided into appropriate sections.

Proofs
Authors will receive proofs, which they are requested to correct and return as soon as possible by express mail or fax.

Offprints
Authors will receive free of charge two copies of the relevant issue. Offprints may be ordered at the price indicated on the offprint order enclosed with the proofs.
